I have long been drawn to understanding people’s stories and supporting individuals as they navigate life’s challenges. I believe each person holds inherent strength, wisdom and resilience, even if it is not always fully recognized. My role in therapy is to help clients identify and build upon their strengths while creating meaningful, lasting change.
My approach is person-centered and strength-based, with a focus on empowerment, self-awareness, and growth. I work collaboratively with clients to explore patterns in thoughts and behaviors, develop healthier coping strategies, and understand how past experiences—particularly from childhood—may impact present functioning. I value open, honest dialogue and provide feedback that is both direct and compassionate, supporting clients in gaining insight while feeling respected and understood.
I earned my Master of Social Work and am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with over 10 years of experience in Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS) and 12 years providing individual therapy in private practice. My professional background includes work in inpatient treatment settings as well as managing eight group homes for adults with developmental disabilities. I also have extensive experience supporting survivors of sexual assault. These experiences have strengthened my ability to help individuals build practical skills for daily living while fostering emotional stability and overall well-being.
I work with adults ages 18 and older, including both men and women, who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, and any life transitions that arise. My clinical approach integrates evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness practices.
The central focus of my work is helping clients develop and maintain healthy boundaries, build confidence in saying no to unwanted requests, challenge negative thought patterns, and strengthen emotional regulation skills. I have experience working with individuals navigating addiction, intimate partner relationships, parenting concerns, and the complexities of relationships with adult children, particularly when those relationships are strained. I also support clients in managing everyday stressors that many people face. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable exploring difficult experiences while also being gently challenged toward meaningful growth.
Outside of my practice, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our three dogs, and our cat, as well as staying closely connected with family. This includes my daughter and her family in Florida, especially my grandson—as well as my stepson and his family, my sister, nieces, and extended family and close friends in Illinois and Duluth. Those who know me describe me as outgoing, personable, and direct. I love all animals and enjoy visiting farms where I can interact with cows and others, along with fishing and spending time in the sun, which helps me relax and stay grounded. I am deeply passionate about the work I do and feel honored to support my clients in creating meaningful change in their lives.
