Hi, I’m Emma McLarnan. I’m currently pursuing my Master of Social Work at the University of Minnesota Duluth with a focus on clinical practice. Over the past six years, I’ve worked in the human services field, primarily supporting families and young adults through a wide range of challenges. Throughout this time, I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals from diverse racial, cultural, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds. These experiences have shaped my deep commitment to inclusive, compassionate care and have strengthened my understanding of how identity and lived experience intersect with mental health.
I take a person-centered, strengths-based approach to therapy—grounded in the belief that each individual is the expert in their own life. I strive to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe, seen, and supported. My approach is collaborative and empowering, emphasizing the unique strengths and values each person brings into the room. I view therapy as a partnership: together, we explore challenges, identify patterns, and build on existing resilience to support healing and growth. I am committed to practicing with cultural humility and honoring the diverse identities and lived experiences of every client I work with. My goal is to meet people where they are and walk alongside them as they move toward the change they seek.
When I’m not in session, you’ll find me outdoors with my dog Finley, paddle boarding on Minnesota’s lakes, or hunting for agates along the shore. I’m also passionate about making art of all kinds, usually with music or a podcast playing in the background.
