Heidi Wendorf, DNP, CNP, PMHNP-BC

Bio

Heidi is an experienced and passionate psychiatric nurse practitioner. She greatly values each clients’ individuality as a human being and prefers a shared-decision making approach to medication management, taking each persons’ preference, lifestyle, and values into account when making recommendations. Heidi receives great professional satisfaction from the relationships she is able to forge with clients, getting to share in their successes as well as provide support during more difficult times. She values a non-judgmental, trauma-informed, client-centered, holistic approach to providing care. She especially enjoys working with clients on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum as a member of the community herself.

Heidi is a Twin Ports native but began her psychiatric nursing career at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, working on an acute psychiatric hospital unit serving adults with a wide variety of mental health concerns. In addition to hospital settings, she served as a psychiatric nurse in community, home, and clinic settings. After eight years as a psychiatric nurse, Heidi graduated from the College of St. Scholastica with a doctorate in nursing practice, mental health focused, in 2020. Since that time, she has been working as a psychiatric nurse practitioner in both clinic and home settings, as well as providing psychiatric medication management services for inmates at NorthEast Regional Corrections (NERCC).

Heidi also provided psychiatric medication management services for clients with SPMI (severe and persistent mental illness), working with three separate ACT (Assertive Community Treatment) Teams, including Mesabi ACT in Virginia, MN, Carleton County ACT in Cloquet, MN, and T-ACT in Duluth, MN, which included visiting clients in their homes for appointments. She has experience providing care for a wide variety of mental illnesses, including but not limited to mood disorders, anxiety disorders, thought disorders, trauma, substance use disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, etc., and has been trained to treat clients from childhood through end of life.

She has more experience working with adults but has also enjoyed working with children and adolescent clients and their families. Outside of work, Heidi enjoys spending time with her spouse, family, friends, and her five rescue pets; three cats and two dogs. She enjoys hiking, camping, yoga, and other endeavors but also appreciates relaxing in equal measure!
