Myret Bulgin BA, Grad Student, Intern

Bio

Greetings! My name is Myret, and I am currently a graduate student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Wake Forest University doing my internship with Two Rivers Counseling.

I view problems often as a discrepancy between the ideal self and lived experience.

I approach each person uniquely and believe the individual is the expert on their own experience and have most of the insights needed to help reach their goals but may not have the tools necessary to do so. I aim to provide a safe and open space for one to explore those elements of self required to see the changes they desire and to facilitate growth.

My goal is to help you achieve the level of functioning that you wish for.

Clinical Approaches

My counseling style is eclectic utilizing Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SF), Existential Therapy (ET), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical-Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mostly Person-Centered Therapy.

Approaches Explained:

Person-centered therapy posits that barring destructive behaviors, the client will tend toward an actualizing tendency. This recognizes that clients are self-directing and able to accept responsibility for their actions. Similar to person-centered, Existential therapy utilizes the potential of the therapeutic relationship particularly to explore themes of meaning, death, freedom, and isolation. Motivational Interviewing is another humanistic approach aimed at moving clients through the stages of change and is effective with substance use disorders. Solution-Focused Therapy brings about change through concentrating on what the client finds to be an acceptable solution to their problem(s) with a focus on changeable behaviors. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is one of the approaches with the most empirical support. It posits that our emotions and behavior are the product of our perceptions of situations and interventions are aimed at modifying maladaptive thoughts or adapting more adaptive thoughts. Dialectical Behavior Therapy is another cognitive type of therapy that focuses on acceptance, change strategies, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.

And that is how change happens. One gesture. One person. One moment at a time.
